Lesley came to the clinic with a 4-year history of knee pain and reduced mobility. As a result she had put on a lot of weight. Lesley felt stuck in a rut, having been advised she needed surgery but unable to do anything to get fitter.
Our physiotherapist, Paul, started Lesley on some basic knee and leg exercises. He reassured her that if she could persevere over a few months despite some discomfort, she should start to notice some improvement.
Over the course of 3 months of physiotherapy, we were able to progress Lesley’s exercises, adding load and challenging her more and more. Her walking really improved, as did her confidence, and her pain levels reduced.
She is now ready for surgery, which is brilliant news. Here’s what Lesley had to say about her experience:
“Although we only had a few sessions together your kindness and believe in me has meant a great deal. I’ve carried on with everything you taught me, learnt to walk and have lost a total of 62kg in 22 months. At the beginning of November my GP referred me to orthopaedics. I’m having my left knee replaced on the 31st of January followed by the right after 6 months.
You changed my life Paul, thank you.”
