Shockwave Therapy now available in Christchurch, Dorset

Nov 8, 2021

We are delighted that we now have a shockwave therapy machine available for treatment at our clinic in Christchurch, Dorset.

Shockwave therapy is the non-invasive administration of high-intensity sound waves. Scientific studies have shown that it can effectively reduce pain in tendons and bone tissue, increase blood flow to bone-tendon junctions, regulate cellular inflammation and increase the activity of healthy bone and tendon cells.

Officially titled ‘Extracorporeal Radial Shockwave Therapy’, a series of high-energy impulses produces an inflammatory response in the body. It increases metabolic activity around the site of pain, stimulating a healing process.

What are the benefits of shockwave therapy?

It stimulates the body’s natural healing process. Treatment is quick and only takes around 5 minutes. It offers an immediate reduction of pain and improved ease of movement.

How many treatments will I need?

According to protocol, 3 treatments are necessary at weekly intervals for the most effective results. For individual cases, some additional treatments may be needed.

Does it hurt?

You may feel some discomfort or pain during the treatment, but settings can be adjusted as required. Generally, there will be immediate pain relief after the treatment, but there may be some discomfort experienced 2-4 hours after.

A course of 3 shockwave treatments combined with clinician-led rehabilitation costs £200. If your treating therapist has referred you for a course of 3 treatments then the cost is reduced to £120.

To find out if shockwave therapy might be right for you, please give us a call on 01202 473800 or email info@bridgehw.com.
